White Christmas has been my favorite Christmas movie since time began; I’m very inspired by the costumes of old movies, and it’s no wonder this movie impacted me so deeply, as all the costumes were designed by the incomparable Edith Head.
Making Vera-Ellen’s red Christmas dress is still on my list, but in the meantime I wanted to make a wool skirt similar to the one she wore as she and Danny Kaye schemed to get Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney to fall in love. If you are able to look closely enough at the skirt, it looks like the black & white pattern is dots, but I went instead with a brushed houndstooth wool, and a white bemberg lining, using a 1950s circle skirt pattern from My Vintage Wish.
